When developing an espresso blend, it is important to factor in many different variables: how the “shot” will taste as part of a “milk-based” drink (latte, cappuccino, or mocha) and how the shot will taste as an “espresso-based” drink (americano or straight shot).
As coffee is roasted darker the sugars are caramelized and a fully developed coffee blend emerges. Some people love the slightly dark, rich taste of our Espresso Bar Blend while still others prefer a lighter roast. Using the same taste profile and quality of bean found in our signature Espresso Bar Blend, we are also delighted to offer an alternative with our Point Defiance Blend.
While we offer a selection of blends here we profile our two signature blends, our varietals and some of the flavored coffees we offer.
ESPRESSO BAR BLEND
We have developed a blend designed to be strong yet smooth using a specific roast that provides flavor without tasting burnt or weak. This blend is a perfect compromise between burnt (too dark) and sour (too light) for most of our customers. If coffee could be compared to chocolate, a light roast would be milk chocolate and our Espresso Bar Blend would be a sweet, rich, dark chocolate taste.
POINT DEFIANCE BLEND
Point Defiance is the “milk chocolate” option for those who love a lighter roasted blend and still demand a super premium quality of coffee. This roast is very similar to how we “cup” the coffee to determine each varietal’s individual taste profile. You can distinctly taste each varietal in this smooth, light espresso designed blend.
FOX HOLLOW DECAF
Fox Hollow Coffee consciously uses a natural decaffeination process. This process is environmentally safe while leaving all the essential flavors in the coffee. A medium roast coffee that boasts a smooth mild bodied taste without showing any signs of offensiveness common to decaf.
BRAZILIAN
In the cup, this Bourbon coffee has a liquor-like aroma and a strong floral note. Its flavor is sweet and smooth and it has a thick, almost creamy body.
COLOMBIAN SUPREMO
A Supremo with a classic profile, full aroma, heavy body, and good acidity. Its pleasing fruit tones are balanced by an excellent caramel-like sweetness, leading to an overall richness.
COSTA RICAN TARRAZU
Our Tarrazu provides great balance, crisp acidity, and a clean follow through. Its taste has hints of spiciness and citrus notes. Good body and chocolaty finish add impact!
ORGANIC
This certified organic coffee offers a well-balanced, medium to full bodied taste, high acidity, and smoky, fragrant overtones. Everything you would expect from a non-organic coffee.
ETHIOPIAN HARRAR
This Harrar has a spicy flavor, which manages to be wild without crossing the line into gaminess. The finish is, despite its complexity and intrigue, pleasant and mild.
HAWAIIAN BLEND
Aloha! Let your mouth escape to a tropical paradise. A medium-dark roasted coffee combining Kauai, Central Americans, and an Indonesian. This coffee offers medium body, high floral motes, and a smooth buttery finish. A must-have for cafes looking to serve a worldly selection.
SUMATRAN MANDHELING
Our Sumatran is a purist Sumatran – consistent cup to cup, but permeated with that funky something that made Sumatra famous. Low acidity and heavy-note complexity make it an excellent cup.
GUATEMALAN
A classic Guatemalan, this is a very complete coffee with a medium to full bodied taste. The high acidity, and smoky, fragrant overtones create a nice clean finish.
KENYA AA
Our Kenya AA is a fine example of what a Kenya has to offer. Medium body, intense, winy acidity, with delicate floral notes and a clean finish.
TANZANIAN PEABERRY
Tanzanian coffee is generally known for its mild aroma, well-balanced acidity, and top-end floral characteristics. The pea berry offers these same traits but with more intensity and snap.
MOKA JAVA
This blend of Arabica or Northern Africa, and a deep sweet Indonesian bean make for a syrupy body and hints of spice to make it a perfectly balanced, wonderfully complex blend with a truly intense flavor.
